No, you don't need the BSEE to build and engineer synthesizer technology.
You do need the BSEE for many other purposes thought. Keep at it!

Yes, lectures are almost inherently booring, and for the most of it the
connection to the real world of engineering is missing. At times it is needed,
but for a lot of time it is just for a bad habit that the connection is lost.
