A more complex MIDI-DIN Sync convertor, Mac uC compiler?

Following this thread got me to wondering; does anyone offer a C 
compiler/development system for the Atmel or PIC stuff that is Mac-based?  (I'm 
guessing that the answer is no, but hoping it's yes).  Thanks to the list, I 
have found some systems for Mac programming of uCs, but it's all in assembly 
language.

Also, are there some books that list members would recommend for DIY people who 
are just getting started with uCs?  I know that there are tons of them for the 
PICs, but what about the Atmel AVRs?
