2300's arent all 2300's

I bought a batch of SSM2300 octal sample & hold chips
(I use them in my midi-cv convertor) and.... this batch
dont quite work.

The ones that DO work have PMI SSM2300P on them

The other non-working ones have a 'm' inside a circle
(like a copyright symbol, with a m for a c) and under it
SSM 2300

If anyone knows anything at all about this, I would love 
to know!! Any theories, anything.
