Just came back from Friedrichshafen performance of our tape music.
Great thing :->>

One experience for live stuff:

It was like Ingo D. said: current in cable channels that changed
over some hours period, due to heating, cooling, machines.

And radio interference.
This all went away when we hastily bought a 100 meter roll
of balanced audio cable, a quad di box, tied the cable shield to
protective earth and used the (assumed) balanced input of the active speakers.

In this particular situation it was NOT possible to live with
any unbalanced wiring, even outside the cable channels, due to
AM radio. I guess the radio waves couple capacitively into the cable
shield (which is audio return) and make currents there.

This radio stuff did only disappear when the shield had no signal
function, like in balanced cable.

Remember: all "line" level signals, i.e. 1V peak or so.

This is all clear from theory, but it was a nice example in practise.
Especially the interference changing from minute to minute
due to power distribution.

Again thanks to all for help.
