as for the micro modular: a new(er) cpu and a good emulator (my favorite is ABox 
from http://www.andyware.com; $25, the author supports and updates it, fourier 
transforms are in the works, VST plugin support) would cost less (unless you're 
gettting the modular used, and from a _very_ nice person) would cost less and 
get you further. With what you save, you could buy yourself an external MIDI 
controller (you'd neeed extra knobs to get the most out of the modular anyway).

but then, I also dumpster dive :)
