harddisk storage

Only problem here is that the cheap Ethernet cards depend on your computer
running a driver to work. The cheap IDE drives depend on your computer
running a driver to work. Putting a driverless NIC in a box with a
driverless IDE drive is not going to work and you will need a *lot* more
than just a couple chips worth of glue logic to make it work.
You will have to maintain a TCP/IP stack, have CMOS ( or NV ) RAM to store
your IP addresses and settings, have some extra memory for buffering the
flow of data to the hd, a fairly fast CPU to take care of everything.
Plus, everybody thinks this is a cool idea and not that many manufacturers
are doing this so you get caught by the 'ole economy of scale thing...
I have seen them for a couple hundred bucks ( forget where though ) but they
are still more than double the retail price of the two components.

Thank you for your information ,buuuut,
"waaaaaahhhhooooo" 2000usd is "not" cheap.
Im talking about "dead" cheap, extreamly deadly cheap,
as cheap as in "common available PC add on things",
like ethernet cards for a dollar,HD for a 120USD bucks etc etc .
Cheap is the word of the day!
