MAT-04 for expo & heater

Well, I went to use the big chamber, only to find stuff left over from a test.
So then I went to use the small chamber, which decided to die at that very
moment. Today I got the guy to clear his stuff out of the big chamber so I can
do the MAT-04 characterization run. I figure to characterize the MAT-04 and the
Ca3046 at 40-60C in 5C increments. If anyone wants to know about different
temps, say so now.

Last night I put together a test circuit for the heater. I will be placing that
in the chamber next to see if it will stay in regulation over temperature. As I
see it, the temp of the die should be 40-45C. Again, if anyone thinks I am
off-base with these numbers, let me know.

Wish me luck.

Subject: MAT-04 for expo & heater

To all,

This goes with the recent discussion on MAT-04s. This weekend I tried the AN-299
heater scheme using a MAT-04. It worked! That is, after some circuit tweeking.
For one, the tempco for the trannies is different than for a 3046. In addition,
the MAT-04 can only handle 30mA of collector current, so the clamp circuit on
the base of the heater tranny had to be tweeked.

I am concerned about the lower collector current limiting the temperature range
of the heater, so this week I will be running some tests in the chamber. I will
publish the results Real Soon Now.
