Switching power supplies

Hi all!

Another question to switching power supplies (SMPS:

Does anyone know any good sources about building SMPS?

I once built a SMPS with a TDA4601 (Infineon). I calculated the
transformer with the appropriating datasheet.
I then tested the SMPS. It worked fine with a halogen lamp (35W)
connected to the output, for about 20s, then
the supply exploded. (Exactly: The power copper tracks on the PCB
vaporized, the TDA4601 burned up and the switching transistor exploded.)
I even don't know today why the supply exploded. I thought of the copper
tracks which were on line voltage hadn't enough clearance. But there
must also be another reason.

So any help is highly appreciated.

I planned to use the supply for a tube circuit which needed many and
stable voltages. And so it would probably get cheaper with an SMPS as
with a common tube transformer with several outputs, which is very
expensive if you need a customer made one.

Thanks & regards,
Alex
