Been quiet lately... too much DIY ?

Hi All !

Been some time since i heard anything about it (but i haven't been 
looking hard :) ), but did'nt that very expensive mike, the 
Soundfield, let one do a similar thing with recordings through 4 mike 
capsules .  The system is based on Ambisonics, 4 speakers l-r-up-
back, tetrahedron like .  Patented matrix lets one "distill" stereo, 
and lets one move the source around the space .  Hmm, i wonder if 
these patents are still running .  First heard about Ambisonics in 
the '70-'80's, so who knows .  The system was proposed as a "better" 
Quadraphonics, but never broke through .
