We (at your local power company) keep statistics on outages and their
causes.  These three vary from location to location as 1, 2, and 3.  But, in
my part of the country, leading causes of power outages in this order are:

1. Squirrels (and other animals) behind squirrels, mostly coons, birds, and
a few owls.
2. Lightning
3. Trees
