I use an earlier Hakko in this series (actually my assistants and I use 3
of them, which I bought from a telecom repair place that was closing down..
I went to the auction to buy benches & got the irons!!)
I havn't had any problems at all (its been 4 years or so now) apart from one
heater burnt out. I manufacture analog fx & these babies are on all day
(& a lot of the night as well sometimes). So all I can say is, they work fine
for me.
The whole thing with a soldering iron, is make sure you will always be able to
get replacement parts & tips. And don't use them as prybars!!!!
