    The Sync input on an oscilator is used to reset the output to a
pre-determined value.  If the frequency of the sync pulse is close to the
frequency of the oscilator, the two will lock together.  If they are not close,

    FM is a must, sync is a really good idea.  It is, generally, not at all
difficult to implement.  It does take up a panel jack.
