This is strange.
I've never seen anything start making noise late in its life, except from
connector corrosion or capacitor failure. If the increasing 'noise' was in
fact hum, I would think some transforner has sneaked into the room.
It's pretty suspicious that they BOTH degraded. What does the noise sound like?
