If we do switch list services, especially to one such as onelist (rather
than mojordomo on a list-member's own server), we should carefully consider
several things.
1> We'll probably need a charter, so that we may be able to define on and
off topic posting.
2> Some of the commercial-style lists have fairly strict intellectual
property rules. Here in DIY-land, we play in some of the grey area
concering existing designs, analyses about them, and schematic sharing.
The wording of the rules I saw for one of those commectial lists said
something to the effect that the authors surrendered all rights to anything
contributed to that list, and transferred those rights to the list host. I
dont remember if it was onelist or a different one, but I'm not sure
everyone here wants to agree to that.
3> Some of the commercial lists append snippets of spam to the bottom of
every relayed mail unless the list pays for the service...
Just some things to consider if we're going to transplant our little list's
backbone.
