I reckon linear is the way to go on VCA's... first, as stated above, the 
guitar  env will be accurately replicated, but also, a log vca env will 
basically be pretty similar to feeding the whole thing into a compressor- 
reduced dynamic range.. of course, if you want a synth less likely to eat 
your speakers, this could be the way to go.. but there will be more parts 
involved too,may or may not be important..
