VCA (to log or not to log...)

I'm driving a VCA (3080 or 13700...) from the envelope of a guitar. I've
extracted
the envelope with a peak follower (for fast attack with low ripple...
sure its not average or RMS, but it does work for guitar...). Now I
want to re-impose this envelope on a
synth waveform.

To LOG or not to LOG that is the question. My guess is that linear is
the way to go,
as I have the exponential decay of the actual guitar preserved in the
envelope.

But maybe someone has other opinions ??? comments please.
