Thanks Juergen.  You're right about the jacks.  I think putting knobs on
the potentiometer shafts would help to reduce the stress on the PCB
during an impact by limiting the distance the shaft would travel.  A
correctly chosen knob would make contact with the panel after a very
short distance.  

Mounting the pots directly is certainly not fool-proof, but I think the
advantages are worth it in this case.  ARP did it this way I believe (at
least Solus and Odyssey unless my memory is faulty).

But anyway what we really want to know is, what's your next big project
going to be!  No fair just hinting!  :-)
