Dear Paul,
I think it means Bucket brigade delay ,
as one of the early explanations was[ I think ] that you could think of
it as a chain of buckets each filled with a certain amount of water ,
which was passed onto the next bucket .
That also explains why you get a lower signal out than you put in , some
of the water gets spilt ! when you pour it into the next bucket .
the analogue input signal was represented by the amount of water in the
bucket.
