3 Terminated regulator?????

I use that diode drop trick, get as many hipower diodes (I use plain
1N4001)
you need to drop input voltage to value Vout+3V which is minimum 
this volt regs need. This way you get minimal disipation.
Right now I have here one 7805 with 6 diodes from 12V rectifier.
I saw this also in some equipment we've repaired at my uni lab.
Number of offboard diodes with short leads soldered in series and placed
in heat resistant isolating tubing. If you dont have enough room
to put heatsink try to desolder it and place it somewhere inside the
box.
