cutting PCB traces

I can't recommend using a power tool like a dremel.
It's overkill and one slip could damage other things.
I've repaired and modded a lot of PCB's, and I always
use an exacto knife. If you place the blade directly on the
trace you want to cut, and apply a little pressure, you may
actually be able to feel the blade cut the track all the way
through. Then if you tilt the blade a little you should be able
to lift enough track to be satisfied it won't short back. Then
just place the blade one the other side of the peeled up part
of track and put enough pressure on it to sever it.
You can always test that it is open with an ohm meter.
