Stretch tuning a resistor string... why NOT to!

When I got my minimoog it was *stretch tuned*.
I can't say anything good about it.
It was that was for some time before I found out
how to calibrate the voltage across the resistor string.
When I listen to an old tape with this on it it
stands out as being very wrong.
(the whole tapes sound bad,
but the mini sounds bad in a different way)
But it was stretched quite a bit, I don't know what
a *slightly stretched* synth would sound like.

On the other hand...
On a V/oct system.
*Stretch tune* VCO1 slightly and detune it a
little below VCO2.
Could you get kind of sort of linear detuning,
where the beat freq stays the same?
At least over a limited range?
