:::What I want to know about is this Yamaha plug-in "analog synth" on a

:::Computer Music said they managed a beleavable P5 on the PLG150-AN

Yes , software synthesis is amazing.

As far as I heard these software things work somtimes for some time,
but not allways and every time.

Some crashes seem to depend on data, others on settings,
and the most miserable on hardware problems. In this case
you're pretty f*d, it is unlikely that someone else will have
the same problem.

I know people who try to get reliable operation from their
system for years now, without final succes. And the components
got very good reviews in the mags. I sometimes wonder how
these people test things, or better - if they test at all...

This wide variety of hardware is a real problem for developers,
the only way to find out about it is a "plug party".
If you join these, you'll find that 70% or more of new pc products
- be it hardware or software - FAIL. At least that is what I experienced.

May be different on the Mac side.
