One of the most useful and overlooked pieces of test bench equipment 
there is. If you're working with AC, power supplies, etc. you have to 
have one (I see them all the time at hamfests really CHEAP). While 
you're at it rig up a box with an AC voltmeter and ammeter (Marlin P. 
Jones has some inexpensive ones) and you're really in business. You 
can tell what's wrong with a power supply just by the way the needles 
move (after you've fixed a couple of dozen of the same model, anyway).


You can make an isolation transformer from two microwave oven 
transformers by putting two primaries on the same core. Don't forget 
to discharge the HV capacitor before you go poking around in 
there...bzzzt  X(
