PAIA Transistors

With the exception of the 2712 noise transistor,
you should be able to substitute 2N3904s for NPNs
and 2N3906s for PNPs in any of the designs.
Also 2N3819 will substitute for N channel FETs.
Diodes can be 1N4148 or 1N914.

For the most part John would use whatever he
could get the cheapest. I am a big fan of Johns work
and have built the 2700, 4700 and 9700 modules.
Johns designs are very inventive, but by no means
critical as far as transistor type (or any other component)
for the 2700 and 4700 series.

I should note that the new 9700 series is a far
cry from the ill-fated 2700 series. John now
uses soldermasked, silkscreened double
sided boards and matched transistor pairs.
He's also given up on the linear designs and
is now making 1V/Oct modules. His envelope
designs are of the Buchla, Serge, Wiard
type with recycle switches to use them as
LFOs.
