question about Formants of different instruments

HI ,
just a quick question .Can anyone recommend a book that would have
listed the difference in the Formants needed to reproduce various
instruments .
I guess this may be a question about the acoustic side of things ?
I'm considering building some simple [analogue] filters that would be
able to reproduce the characteristics of various existing instruments .
I know that the formant characteristic is only one of many items that I
need to consider , there is the waveform of the oscilator , the envelope
[ adsr ? ] , and the filtering  but I hopefully know enough to
understand the other items .
