Suggestion for expo-converter

Hello all,
I was just thinking about building a analog synth with combined
technologies (analog/digital).
That means, that the parts which generate the sound or directly form it,
like the VCO and VCF... have to stay in analog technology, but other
things like the expo-converter, LFO, ADSR and so on should be built with
digital circuits.
Then I came to a point, which seems to be one of the most discussed
point on the list: The expo-converter
But why all this problems with Temp-compensation. You can just use an
A/D-converter, and a simple 16-bit uController.
And then the expo-conversion should be very precise.
Or am I thinking the wrong way?
But this was only a suggestion, I think, you have to compare the costs
and converting accuracy of the analog and digital version.
Regards, Alex
