I thought it was going to be significantly more difficult than
this... :)
I wired tracks 3/4 to the "phones" output and use a send/return
cable to take the L/R output from "Phones" to the mixer. Now I have 4
channels which are separately eq'ed, etc. I didn't add any hardware,
jacks, etc. I am going to go thru the tracks in a bit to set volume of
tracks 3/4 equal to that of tracks 1/2 since they come out a different
way, make a note of it, and leave the levels on the recorder alone.
There was a two-conductor shielded cable going from next to the
"Phones" pot to the headphone jack. I cut this and wired the L/R signal
going to the phones to the 3rd/4th track coming out of the main board to
the mixer board.
There are two two-conductor shielded wires running from the main
board to the mixer board that terminate at the mixing board right next to
each other; the white/red conductors are for tracks 1-4 and the two black
wires come off the shield and go to ground. Tracing these back to the
level/pan pots, it's easy to tell which one is which.
There is a screw hole next to this six-wire block on the mixer
board- I ran the short length of wire that went to the phone jack through
this hole and soldered it to the three conductors on the underside of the
board. I then removed the corresponding screw post so it wouldn't get in
the way. (There are about 8 screws holding the mixer board to the front
part of the unit; the plastic is soft and easy to cut.)
I just put it back together and tried it out, no sweat at all,
even for me :)
This may not exactly be synth-diy but I figured it might be useful
to anyone else who has a 4-track and wants indie outs...
