PAiA Fatman vs ASM-1

The ASM-1 is a much better synth. It has a real professional sound to it...
the oscillators are beefy and the filter is very unique (at least compared
to the filters I am familure with... the Moog lowpass, the arp odyssey,
roland sh-09, the Waldorf Pulse).
But, the Fatman will be much easier to put together.
I bet I could put the Fatman together in about 3 nights. I probably spent
15-20 nights/days working on the asm-1 (including drilling my own panal,
ect)
The fatman also has the midi->CV converter built into it. with the ASM-1,
you need something external.
The ASM-1 can potentially be a disaster if you power it on, and a module
does not work, and you have no idea why. You really need to understand
it more to debug it.
I have a bunch of audio samples of the ASM-1 at:

Ironically, some of these sounds are the ASM-1 going through a Paia Tube
Head distortion box. Some delay is added on them too.
