electro harmonix big muff

My big muff is fixed! thanks to all those who wrote me. It turned
out to be a couple of loose wires in there, I'm not sure how that
happened. They may have gotten caught on something.

Anyway I was poking around in there and saw that everything was
mysteriously unlabeled. I have seen the schematics before somewhere on the
web so no problem there.

I do have a question, though (again): have any of you added
independent outputs for a 4-track recorder before? I have a Tascam
porta-03 which I got recently- I was under the impression it had 1 out put
for each track. Instead it has a mini-mixer with level and pan controls
which just doesn't cut it for me. I don't want to have to sell this and
buy another, more expensive one, so does anyone have any experience with
doing this? I have a separate mixer (mackie 1402vlz) that I'd like to use
for eq, effects loops, etc. but which I really can't since I can only
listen to two channels independently of each other. (L/R)

Of course, I could eliminate the pan control, and instead send
each channel's signal to a separate output- maybe buffered by an op-amp? I
haven't been able to turn up schematics for it but I figure it shouldn't
be too hard to figure out. The one thing I don't want to do is have the
mechanical parts associated with the cassette tape (rollers, springs,
pistons, alternator, crankshaft, boiler, turbine) fall out of place and
not be able to get them back in, and end up with a 4-track machine with
independent outs that can't record onto a tape :)

As always I'd love some input on this. Is where a synth-diy
archive?? I didn't know such a thing existed, but if it does I'd be most
grateful if someone could push me in that direction so the next question I
ask isn't something that's been answered before.

	thanks,
	andy

btw- of course if I do undertake mods to the deck, I'll make sure
to post about it...
