   If you can afford it, OrCAD is awesome.  But even a stripped down 
version of Layout + Capture is expensive unless you can get an 
educational version (and that is pretty hard since you have to fill out a 
form justifying why they should sell it to you at such a low cost (about 
$1K for a stripped version, $3K or so for the top line)).
   I've tried other ones, like Protel and MicroSim (before it merged with 
OrCAD), and there's a world of difference (quite a bit due to the fact 
that OrCADs libraries are huge, and the GUI is extremely easy to navigate).
   I could go on and on about the wonders of OrCAD, but I imagine it'd be 
lost on the fact that most people just can't afford it.
