As JH mentioned, unfortunately it does vary by manufacturer -- but luckily
by region.  Most big places like Omeg use A for linear and B for log.
Some Japanese co's have that reversed.  Some US companaines use nothing
for linear, and A and B for varying tapers on log pots.  And I've seen
people draw up schematics with "A" standing for audio, so hey.

And as Troy mentioned, your best bet would be looking at the context it
appears in.  If it's the volume at the end, it's gonna be audio taper.
Or check the datasheets from the manufacturer in question.

Or just use whatever you've got if you're not too picky about how smooth
it turns.
