As I recall, she said she had found drywall with an aluminum foil
vapor barrier on one side. They simply ran ground straps to connect
all the drywall sheets together.
The idea came in part from Vladamir Ussachevsky who wanted
some white noise before there were white noise generators.
So he multitrack a whole bunch of recordings from the radio
until it turned into white noise.
It occurred to Wendy that maybe all the ambient RF noise was
rectifying across the semiconductor junctions in her equipment
and producing what sounded like white noise but was actually
an AM demodulated version of the entire radio environment.
Apparently it worked. She said it even made the analog gear quiet
enough to use in the digital studio.
