Synths in mags

Hi all:

Just a heads-up that there are articles in the February editions of
Future Music and Electronic Musician about the history of electronic
music with a heavy emphasis on synths. Actually The EM article will be
spread out over the next 4 issues. I didn't buy the Future Music issue
as it's kinda pricey here (it's a British mag I think).

Little quiz for you from the EM article: Who invented and built a synth
with keys that were sensitive to sideways pressure to change pitch up to
as much as an octave (wiggle yer finger to do true vibrato), vertical
pressure controlled volume, and other controllers to add breath sounds
and raspiness (distortion). Was it Bob, Don, Tom?
No, it was Hugh LeCaine in 1948. And all done with tubes! It was called
the Electronic Sackbut. Nice to see him getting some exposure - he is
too often overlooked as one of the synth pioneers.

Cheers,

Peter
