Fan noise madness!!/1394

Along the same lines (eliminating noise in your pc setup),  anyone utilize
1394 peripherals in their studio?  I'm curious as to how you use them -
are they permanent - where do you put them?, do you carry them around and
hot plug alot?  Do you use line repeaters?
