matching HFe Vbe??

Hi 

I have a definition problem.
In the ASM1 oscilators one of the demands are 
two matched 3904 transistors or The MAT02 from analog devices
i used the two 3904. In the text of the ASM-1 was written that The 3904 pair 
needs a close match ,mean its better (?!?).
My question is what should be matched? The HFe ? Vbe?
In the data sheet i found many deteils i couldnt understand.
In my multimeter i can make out of what is the Hfe in the transistor and
what is the order of its "Legs"
But what about the rest of the values?

ANy help and guide would be great!
