Ah well, with a bit of resonance you can get away with a LPF.

I always loved the Formant's random voltage for stuff like that.
I guess it's time to revive the old box...
Add to that a pinch of LFO, and occasionally trigger a sloooow envelope.

Btw, not related to the PAiA: that can be done quite nicely with a
polyphonic. Again, slow env's, filter keytracking, and randomly playing
different keys.

Right, playing with cutoff and resonance is important. Just like the
303 people always do. But then, that's a different story...
