Searched Barrie Gilbert analog in www.google.com & got plenty
of leads to his writings on analog design & philosophy.
He's been there, done it all, & still is. The 'gilbert 
multiplier' is just one of his inventions. He's got a pretty 
good attitude, too. (IMHO!)

BTW he built a TV set from scrap radar parts before he was 
ten years old, so I guess he had a start on most of us...
