Do you mean, you have an (?external?) signal coming in, and you look at the 
attack, then force a sustain and/or decay onto it?

Because if you do, the difficulty is removing the original sustain/decay shape.
You can do this with a compressor, though. And, the original attack could 
be detected by differentiating the slope, with all due care, and of course
knowing when to start looking at the attack!

The problem is similar to those 'reverse' or 'backwards' guitar effects that
change the natural fast attack and slow decay of a guitar to the reverse.

I don't think it would be easy even in d*gitsal, at least for me! ;-)
