Back when I was in high school (and could actually see), the school was given literally
garbage can's full of assorted carbon comp resistors. The teacher would give you something like 1
point of extra credit for every 10 resistors you sorted, or something like that. For most of the
students, this was a real chore. All I needed to do was look at the resistor, and I could tell
you the value (to me, it was like the value was printed). Needless to say, in a couple of weeks I
had accumulated enough extra credit to not only get an A for all the quaters that year, but for
the next couple of years as well....dang teacher changed the rules then.......
Now, it doesn't matter what the background of the bands are. Violet, brown, black look all
the same, as well as orange and red. Even with a magna viewer on, it is difficult to read them.
I have been of late having to resort to a Fluke as well......
