Transformer DI for modulars

Hi all,

>I'm considering making a DI module for the output of my modular synth.

I have just done this too. I used a EBOS, 'electronically balanced
output stage' instead of a transformer. This is basically three op-amps.
For driving your mixing desk which is run off the same mains supply,
this is fine. Most mixing desks provide EBOS outputs for their main mix
and group outputs. Transformers do have their own sound and you may
prefer this. But they are a bit expensive and do loose some top end.
However, they are the only way to provide true isolated audio... except
for opto & capacitive methods, but these are both active.

I have just designed a MOTM compatible 4-way output mixer. This includes
an EBOS with 10:1 divider on it for this very purpose. The PCBs should
be available in a few weeks. I'll bung the schematic and information up
on my site soon.

For those who need an EBOS schem quick, I also use one on the TB3030's
output stage. See the TB3030 page for this. For non-critical use, that's
most of you, you can dispense with the trimmer, and pull both outputs to
ground via a 10K resistor.
