I'm with Juergen on this, but it does depend on application. I think
anyone who wants a freestanding RM with internal VCO will want far less
carrier bleedthrough than someone who wants another panel on their
modular. Most modular or synth builders can put their RM in front of the
final VCA, thus eliminating any problem of the carrier being live when
the modulator is silent. But external RM modules need some sort of
carrier suppression to provide the unit from singing all the time.
For occasional use in my modular, I am happy enough with an OTA based
VCA with a reversible attenuator and mixer. Moog modular owners just
need the VCA and a mixer, since you already have the inverting output.
