There are programs called "Circuit Maker" and "Tracks Maker" (mabye
Trax???)
These are probably a $1000 or less investment. You would get a schematic
tool, a
spice simulation, and a layout tool. It is the old "home" version of the
Protel package.
Check them out. I've played briefly with the spice portion and the
schematic editor.
It seems to perform roughly equivalent the Electronic Workbench... but
is a little less
friendly in real time simulations. I like to be able to vary circuit
parameters on the fly
to get a guess at transient conditions !!!
