true...as part of my side business outside of school, I've been scrapping old 
computers for a couple years, and have sold off at least a ton or two of old 
circuit boards. If everything's socketed, they might be useful for parts, but 
It's really a lot easier to buy cheap logic parts than remove them from 
boards. I do have a friend who's having a convection over built to run SMT 
boards through. The chips are quickly heated so they fall off the board, and 
then are collected, sorted and resold to be used in new devices. Certain 
processors he's able to get several bucks a piece or more for, like video 
controllers. Apparently used memory chips are quite popular too, as there are 
places out there that will buy memory IC's in quantity, new or used, and will 
pay cash for SIMMs, DIMMs, etc, working or not. From what I gather, there's a 
good bit of this reuse of chips going on..it probably has some connection to 
supporting and repairing legacy hardware.
