IMHO not too useful unless they are like.... free.
You probably will not be able to make them work as new (or want to...)
Most of the chips will be fairly worthless digital chips, etc.
There may be a fair number of ferrite beads on the old boards, usually on I/O
boards (video, modem, etc...). These are not worth much, but they will be hard to
get if you go out to buy them alone.
Newer boards are usually SMT and have even fewer good parts on them !!!
