I manufacture a quad rackmount midi-cv unit, in which each of the 4 channels 
can be independantly set to oct/v or hz/v. I didn't design it myself (I dont do
the 'programming' thing) but it uses a 68HC11 & a 16 bit D to A convertor.
The exponentiation is done in software, so it's good for the total range.
I dont know if Roy Tate is still on the list, but he has had one in his stack 
for a long time.
