That's very interesting. Back in 1969 someone already realized that "The
conventional electronic synthisizer is severely limited as a real-time
instrument since it can produce only a limited number of sound events
without manual change of its circuitry" (quoted from website). I thought
this was later, when the first knob-less synths were introduced.
