Time is the biggest thing.  I used to run the Independent Music Site 
(www.indiemusicsite.com), but it was taking way too much time to maintain.  I 
was receiving about 30-50 emails a day, and was spending 15 hours or more a 
week doing updates.  SO, I found someone who wanted to take it over, and 
passed it along.

The cost is relatively cheap.  I have 1 GB of space on my server that costs 
$27 a month, plus you need to spend $35 a year to maintain a domain name
