Looking at the datasheet, I notice a strong similarity between the VCO in
the 565 and the VCO of the 566, so I'd say one would have to hook it up in
a similar way. I.e. feeding the Timing-R input with a current, to do so one
would have to power the 565 from GND to the negative rail.
The vco566 on my homepage should give you an idea.
