it's not a marketing thing, it's just sony being crap again. they make a lot
of custom chips themselves for much of their broadcast kit too, and getting
parts for a newish line (like 6 years ago, when digital betacam first came
out) has always been a nightmare. they're cautious about quantity is all,
they'd rather make too few than too many.
