Yes, ARP used the 3086's because they were cheaper.
We used 3086's all over the place, on nearly every product, from 2600 VCO's
to AXXE VCA's. I vaguely recall seeing 3046's in a couple of production
runs, substituted in when the 3086's were not available. As for the phaser,
it warms my heart to know that people are still building it.
